Truth being told, I had the intention to put together an event locally since the very first time Jeremy Cowart called photographers around the globe to join, yet, due to my deep procastination skill, I didn't until some inspiration was given from Marcos Valdes, who, as far as I know is the only Mexican photographer participating in the country.
So i kikcked my ass off the chair and thought on who might find their free portraits valuable and then I ran into this non profit organization called "Pasitos de Luz" ( Little steps of light, in spanish) and paid them a visit. The mere fact of walking among them and knowing their stories rocks hard you heart: there is a group of no more than 30 people, serving 150 kids with some kind of physical or mental condition, and their families, providing from guidance and therapy to day caring these little angels, for FREE! Kids are carefully feed, receive education, entertainment and therapy. If you'd like to check their website out to find out more of their fabulous job just click here: http://www.pasitosdeluz.org/
In the end, after inviting some local photographers and a beauty salon, my colleagues Stephy Finch and Eder Acevedo agreed to come along and make some Christmas portraits of the kids and their families as an small present for the season.
My hope is that this small homage to this strong and brave families had brought them some joy to their homes, as for me it made me realize how fortunate I am of living a life as mine.
Thanks to Jeremy and all those generous people that set us the example and inspired us!
