Permalink Reply by Jamie Neilsen on September 17, 2009 at 5:24pm I'll be student teaching for Fall quarter at an inner city school, not sure which one right now, but most likely somewhere in the Central District. Perfect opportunity to connect with families. I also love the idea of Jamie's.
Permalink Reply by Kirsten Michelle Petermann on September 17, 2009 at 10:59pm What about doing portraits of the elderly at an assisted living home? Some of them don't get out much. They could invite family to participate if they're in the area or send a print to family if they have none nearby.
I also like the idea of offering portraits to families of single mothers who are homeless or in halfway homes. Another option to add to that would be taking "beauty shots" of homeless/battered women as a self esteem booster. I could rally up a few people to provide hair/makeup services and make them feel really beautiful.

Another idea is to take formal family portraits of underprivileged families - just in time for the holiday season. =) We could either set up somewhere and advertise the location/service, or potentially contact organizations we know and volunteer to go to them (eg, we did a fundraiser a yr ago for a non-profit called Vision House - they provide housing for homeless single mothers and their children - http://www.vision-house.org/)
Permalink Reply by Jamie Neilsen on September 28, 2009 at 4:57pm Great ideas, all! I was wondering, would it be beneficial and feasible for us to meet in person sometime in the next couple of weeks to all meet each other and solidify an idea in person? Are people relatively close to Seattle? I can get as far as Bothell and as south as Tacoma on any given day, given it's late enough in the evening to get over. I work a regular 9-5 type schedule so a weeknight could work for me, or a wkend depending on which day. Just thought I'd throw it out there!
