Update Nov 29: We have a team and a plan to serve the 120 families at DLEC! However, we are still looking for one additional assistant photographer (see below).
What's more, we are still looking for financial support to cover the cost of the prints. Chip in here if you can.

I am coordinating an event on Dec 4 for Denise Louie Education Center, which provides pre-school and other education programs to kids from low-income, culturally diverse, families.

Feel free to reply to this thread if you are interested in helping out, or have any questions.

Dec 4, 2010  , 9am - 4:30pm
(if you can only help out for half a day, that is okay too!)

Location: Denise Louie Education Center  Beacon Hill site

Volunteers needed.
1 - Assistant Photographer, who helps to pose the families, take over when the portrait photographer needs a break, etc.

Positions filled
2 - Portrait Photographer[*] (Marisa, Rakesh)
1 - Assistant Photographer (Stefanie 9am-1pm, Tos 1pm - 4:30pm)
4 - Processor / Photo Editor ( Laurie + Wenona: 9am-1pm; Katie, Jared, Easton, Marisa's friend 1/4 )
1 – Documentation Photographer (Yee: 9am - 1pm; Stefanie: 1 - 4:30pm)
2 - All-purpose volunteer (Backup to other roles, gopher, etc). (Marisa's friend 2/4, 3/4)
1 - Site Leader / Project Manager (Sam)
1 - Greeter (Marisa's friend 4/4)
1 - Prop preparation (Lydia)

Eratosthenes (photography related area)

[*] Portrait Photographer: responsible for taking the studio style portrait photos. Please also indicate if you have the lighting equipment (light, flash, light stand, backdrop / stands, etc.).

[**] Processor / Photo Editors will download the photos from the memory cards to their laptops, let the families pick the one they like the best, and crop the photo in appropriate sizes (4x6 , 8x10, and possibly 5x7). Of course, you're free to do additional editing should you  feel inspired!

DLEC, founded in 1978, has been serving low-income children (0-5 years old) and their families to ensure the children's success in kindergarten, through pre-schools and a variety of other programs, addressing their needs in their cognitive, emotional, and social skills development, as well as physical health.

I have a friend who's interested in doing some videography for our event... is there room for him to participate?
It's a amazing slow responding group.

Thank you! Even though I desired to help, but I didn't get a single response since last two days.
Leaving this group.
Hate to leave even though have good desire to help the community.

Leads for this group needs to change. Almost no response to any message. Either there should be multiple leads for event or put more responsible people.

Hi, I don't know if it's too late but I am interested in helping!
For photographer's assistant or post process.  I can stay there full day.

Please let me know!

Aren,

The Help Portrait event at the Denise Louie Education Center already happened on 12/4/2010.  I don't know of any future events planned, but this or the general Seattle group page is probably the best place to check out if there is.

Thanks,

Yee

Ooops!  I thought it is on the 14th. Sorry about that.

82 families attended the event on Dec 4 Sat and they have just got the prints. Thanks all the H-P volunteers (as well as the volunteers from University of Washington Jumpstart) !

I also apologized for the slow responses in the last week to the people who expressed interests - I was not feeling well and was behind on correspondence.

Someone else mentioned they might look into organizing another event later this month - so hopefully there might be more announcement.  There are also discussions of doing more next year in Spring / summer - the spirit of Help Portrait does not just end in holiday season!
