Help-Portrait clicks in New Jersey: December 10th events will be in Asbury Park, Newark, and Highland Park
Help-Portrait is a world-wide community of photographers coming together to use their photography skills to give back to their local community. It was founded in 2009 by celebrity photographer Jeremy Cowart, who organized the test project in 2009 and organized the first official event in 2010. This year, it will be held world-wide on December 10th.
The idea behind Help-Portrait is simple: 1. Find someone in need 2. Take their portrait 3. Print their portrait and 4. Deliver their portrait. In the last two years, more than 101,000 portraits have been given by 10,000 photographers and 12,000 volunteers. Help-Portrait is now a global movement in more than 1,000 locations in 54 countries.
This year Help-Portrait events have been organized in three New Jersey communities: Asbury Park, Newark and Highland Park. It’s the first event for Newark and Highland Park, and the second for Asbury Park.
Help-Portrait Asbury Park is directed by Daniel P. Falvo, who says, “Help-Portrait is a relatively young movement, but has been transformational for both the community participants and the volunteers.” Help-Portrait Asbury Park will be held at the Sisters Academy.
Help-Portrait Newark is being organized by Jarvis Roque, who is very excited about organizing his first event. He is expecting 15+ volunteers and aiming to provide 50+ portraits. They are partnering with World Impact Newark and the Humanity Baptist Church, who is hosting the event.
Help-Portrait Highland Park is being organized by King Yan “Fina” Yeung, also organizing her first event. They are hoping to provide 40+ photographs with 5+ volunteers. Their event will be held at the Reformed Church of Highland Park, NJ. They are partnering with Who Is My Neighbor and are hoping it will be a community event with musical performances and story-telling. If you’d like to volunteer, please send an email to fina@veryfinaartphotography.com.
Help-Portrait is a 501(c)(3)corporation. You can help support the event by making a tax-deductible donation at help-portrait.donortools.com and you will receive an electronic tax-deductible receipt through HELP-PORTRAIT Inc.

Comment by Jarvis Roque on November 29, 2011 at 1:24pm Sounds good, thanks! (Is there a link or something to that press release?) Hopefully, the turnout will be bigger than anticipated, so more volunteers are always welcome :)

Comment by Jarvis Roque on November 29, 2011 at 11:24am I'm expecting 15+ volunteers and aiming for 50+ portraits provided. And those are purely guesses as (1) our host and partner may adding more volunteers and (2) I have yet to receive our HP marketing materials and, therefore, have yet to distribute them in Newark through our partner organizations.
Those organizations are Humanity Baptist Church and World Impact Newark.

Comment by ellen martin on November 29, 2011 at 10:22am Hi guys,
I'm doing the press releases for HP in Asbury Park and was wondering how your event is coming along. I'm thinking about doing a release that includes all jersey locations and would love to include you. ellen
