Medellin, Colombia 2011
Information
Photographers, locals, gringos and everyone in between coming together this year in 2011 to give back to the community of Medellin.
The concept is simple: it's comprised of photographers and volunteers who want to come together and give free professional photographs back to the wonderful Paisa people of Medellin.
We'll hit the streets armed with our camera gear to the barrios around Medellin. We'll photograph individuals willing to pose, then print them a copy of the photo that day. We'll return to the same location to hand them their very own portrait!
A lot of people here have never had a professional photograph taken of themselves and this is a way for photographers, travelers and locals to give back to the community and share the love. The smiles given back in return will be your reward... that is PRICELESS!

The idea of Help Portrait, concept created by Jeremy Cowart in 2009, is take of photo of someone in need, print the photo and deliver. It is an awesome experience to make people feel special during a photo session and give them a photo they can take home with them. Well we are putting together the first meet up and it's looking good already! So far we have 3 photographers who are willing to volunteer with their camera equipment and time, with about 5 people who said they would assist them (we still need more as our goal is to get 15 volunteers total).
We will photograph for 2hrs (1pm-3pm), then two people from the group will take the memory chips to a local print lab to have 5x7 (we might be able to get 8x10 made if we can get the cost low enough) prints made up for each person who posed.
While the prints are being processed, the rest of the group will hang out at the original location. They can socialize with others, drink, eat, whatever. The prints should be made within one hour and will be brought back to the group to be handed out to the three teams. After the photos have been sorted, the teams will wait till the locals come back for their copies.
This is the BEST part of the project as you'll be able to hand a professional photograph back to the people and get a shot of them holding their photograph.
- Requirements:
>>>> Please bring 5,000 COP per volunteer (to help pay for the prints)
>>>> Bring a camera if you like (but is not necessary to help)
>>>> Please be on time as people will be depending on you in the teams to start at exactly 1pm.
