I think we should meet too! I'm in town tomorrow morning and early afternoon. What is your schedule like?

I don't think this happened here in Lansing last year. I was reading some of the posts from people that did it last year and they said that some people wanted digital images to print off more images. So they had cd's to give to those people. Not everyone will want that but at least we can offer that as an option and have it available.
Yes, the other photographers will have equipment. We talked about having 4 stations open. We also talked about having food too, maybe prebaked things they could take home. Maybe that's too much to do..depends on how many people can help. The more people the better. If you know more people, have them sign up here so they can follow our communication. That would be great!

Ok. I can think of at least another 4 photographers. I can get some people from work to edit and print so that the photographers can just concentrate on their picture taking if they'd like. Would we really want to offer CD's as some may not have computers? Do you know if this was done here in Lansing at all last year?
I don't think there would be anything wrong with opening up to everyone. I guess we could see how much help we could muster up this coming week and decide then? Maybe contact Cristo Rey, St. Vincent Home, Women's Shelter? I do have quite a few people that want to participate and even a few teens that are in Honor Society and would like to complete their community service.

Am I to assume the photographers already have their lighting, etc.?

I really think this could be a great thing! I'm excited about it! I think we can get lots of people to help. Maybe I'm being super optimistic!

Maybe we could meet at the church and look it over so we know what we've working with?

Thank you for your helpful spirit! Ok we have 8 photographers, maybe a video person, each photographer can do retouching and computer stuff. I think we can offer 5x7's and cd's. I did not do this last year...which is why the stress.

It would be nice if we could print right there on the spot and not have to run back and forth. We will need people to bring their lap tops too. Originally when we had talked about doing this, we talked about advertising it to Military families and single moms/dads and their kids. If we had more people, I think we could offer it to everyone, we just thought it might be more than we can handle for the first year.
What do you think about that?
I have a friend that is going to contact the paper and news. So hopefully we can get some info out there to people soon.
Let's go ahead and reserve the gym at your church. I haven't talked to Lynne yet, but their coordinator said their event is all day that day. So it just might not work there.
Thank you in advance for contacting those places to see if they would donate. That takes a lot of time off my plate. :)
Thanks,
Jackie

Don't stress. :) Did you do this last year? Okay, let's start out by you telling me what we have so far and we'll go from there. How many photographers do you have so far? Computer people? Do you still want me to hold on to the church downtown? I can contact Sams. 8X10's? I can also call The Camera Shop. I also wanted to contact Staples or Best Buy and see if they were willing to donate some inexpensive photo printers and ink. What do you think? Please tell me what we have so far and I'll try to work it from there. The gym at the church is pretty big, you could probably have up to 10 stations set up. But let me know as soon as you can and I'll get moving too. :)

Ok, I'm waiting to hear from P2 and see if we can work something out with them. this would be an ideal location because they have lights, computers and the equipment we would need to do this. We are running out of time! I'm stressing!

Miriam, my friend thought it might be a good idea to contact Sam's Club about donating prints for us. We could upload them from our location and then send a runner ever hour or so to pick them up. Would this work? Are you able to contact them and see if they could do this for us?

Jackie - That sounds great. I talked to my friend tonight and said she can book the church for Dec. 4 too. They are downtown right in the middle of all the homeless shelters and so on by the capitol. She said so many poor/homeless people come by they actually have a list of at least 300 individuals on their database of known homeless individuals in their area. Many of them don't have cars or any type of transportation. What do you think? Did you do this last year? I am so excited in this project. I think it's such a great opportunity to help the community. I can think of at least another 2 photographers and many volunteers.

Great! My church is South Lansing Christian Church and I should know today. Our photography group meets at P2 every month but they are having a festival that day so I'm not sure if that will work. It's still a possibility. I'm going to wait till I hear from my church first.
We have plenty of Prof. Photogs that can bring equipment and shoot. But we will need lots of help with planning and getting people through.
more info coming!
Thanks,

I am a budding photographer. I have 2 cameras (Nikon D5000 and Nikon D300) that I can use but I don't have any backgrounds of lighting yet. I can do anything and I think this is a great cause. What church are you looking at. I have a friend that works at St. Pauls Episcopal Church and I'm sure we could use that church if we run into a pinch. That is downtown Lansing. I also e-mailed Perspectives2 but have yet to hear from them. This is exciting. I hope we can pull it off. I also have a couple of friends that would love to volunteer in doing whatever!

Hi Miriam! Thanks for signing up to the Lansing group! I am waiting to hear back from my church about using their space. We are planning the event from 11am to 4 pm right now. And we will probably need to get there a couple hours before then to get set up. As soon as I know the location we will be at, we can get things rolling.
Are you a photographer? Or what can you help with?
Thanks and good to meet you!
