I emailed the DePelchin Children's Center and got a great response..see below:

This sounds like a fabulous project and a worthy endeavor! We are honored to be asked to participate. And I think at least on some scale, we will certainly be able to be involved. Of course, we have issues of privacy for our foster kids and other clients often, so I would like to make sure we discuss this a little more to make sure privacy issues are taken care of, but other than that, I think this will work.

I’m going to talk to a few of our program managers here and see which kids/clients would be best for this. One quick question for you is how many kids would you be looking at photographing? This will help me to know which groups to include in my discussion.

Thanks again! I look forward to a great outcome and a bunch of smiling photographed faces!

If we are interested in working with DePelchin, I think we should invite them to our meeting. Also, anyone have any advice for some of the questions she has posed?

My wife works at DePelchin and we can certainly help organize activities with them.
I am excited at the possibility to shoot at the Depelchin but something just stroke me that maybe worth mentioning.
DePelchin takes in lots of CPA cases and sadly enough, these kids are in "hiding" from their parents or guardians. We need to be very careful about the shots that we'll take so that they privacy is not compromised. I believe that is what the response maybe saying. We can discuss more during the upcoming meeting.
All age groups and as many of each as possible.
It's so hard to know how many we can photograph in this one sitting, because we don't know how photographers we'll have at this particular site. I envision one photographer spending 10-15 minutes per person. Does that sound reasonable? If we are there two-plus hours, each photographer could then take portraits of 8 children. I can't imagine having fewer than three photographers, can you? I would suggest saying we could certainly take photographs of 25 children, but if they have more that may be interested, we would make arrangements to have more photographers available.

Anybody else have a thought on this?
Just an update on Depelchin. I sent another email to my contact Zandra Jackson. She responded today that she has forwarded it on to the program directors to see which groups we could work with in our time for the event date.
I'm just joining up so I'm sorry if someone has already asked this question! For all the shoots regarding children, are we asking that they make it to Coffee Grounds or we going to where they are and shooting on site?
There are going to be some location shoots. MD Anderson would also been a location shoot.

Check out the discussion on Children's Cancer Hospital at MD Anderson.

Ok, I just got off the phone with my contact Za'ndra Jackson with Depelchin. The group that has been targeted for us to photograph within the center is at their Richmond Residential Center. It is located in Richmond, but she offered to bring the kids (20 of them, ages 5-12) either to their center in Houston or perhaps meet at a location. Perhaps, Hermann Park or Discovery Green. Just thinkin off the top of my head with this. Please add some ideas and we can discuss more at the meeting on Wednesday.

I think this would be so much fun for the kids!
Discovery Green would require some additional work on our part since it will seem to be a commercial shoot, when it isn't. I like the control of indoors, personally, but with the help we will have we should be good at a park too with reflectors and people holding them. :-)

Here is the information that was sent over from DePelchin. Important info to read so that we will know what is expected of us when working with them.

I work at DePelchin, with adoptive families. November 21 is National Adoption Day, and there are a variety of area celebrations. It would be really cool if someone were interested in doing family portraits.
