I have chosen Sister Care to be the organization that we help out. They are very excited that we will be helping out the families that have used their services. What I would like to accomplish is giving women and their children that have been in abusive situations and have gotten help from Sister Care a nice portrait for Christmas. A lot of these women have lost a lot including their self esteem. I want to help lift them up for a moment in their lives and help them to realize that they matter. We will be working towards getting a nice portrait for them to have by Christmas.

This is going to be a huge project for me and I'm going to need lots and lots of help from anyone that is willing to help out. There is a lot that goes on besides taking the pictures and even if you are not a photographer and want to help I would welcome the help greatly.

Here is a starting list of the things that I am going to need. If anyone would like to volunteer or know of someone that can help provide the material things needed, please get in touch with me.

1. Volunteers: People to do/be the following.
Sign in person, greeters, runners/assistants, hair and makeup, props/clothing assistant, photograher's assistant (someone to help with the subjects being photographed), photographers, editors, call places for donations or help.

2. Material things:
Extension cords, power strips, photography lighting, stools/chairs to pose subject on, backdrops and stands, props/toys, hair styling items, makeup, clothes (clean out your closet, any nice womens or childrens clothes that they can wear and take with them if they need something nice to wear), laptops, donated toys to give to the children as they leave, image printing (printing companies).

3. Monetary donations: There will be expenses for things that are not donated (i.e. printing of the portraits). All monies not used for this event will be donated to Sister Care as well as any left over clothing and toys.

4. A very large space like a gym or large office to hold the event in.

This is my starting list of needed things. Please spread the word around to your friends so that we can reach more people that might want to be a part of this.

You've picked an awesome group to photograph! I would absolutely LOVE to volunteer.  I use to work in many different areas of photography including studio and school photos as well.  I could be a photographers assistant.  I'd also like to help with props...What sort of set up and props were you hoping for? and I'd be happy to gather clothes and toys as well.  I'm new to columbia so I don't have a lot of contacts for backdrops and lighting and things of that nature but I will certainly help in as many ways as I can.
Alicia, that's great that you want to help out. I'm so excited about this event. The set ups I had planned are mostly simple. I would need posing chairs, stools, benches, ..... I'm pretty open to other types of props. If anyone has things like doll carriages, big blocks, things that can be used to do children portraits. If we have them we can use them. If we don't then that is ok too. Clothes and toys would be great. What ever we don't use I'll be donating to the shelter. Everyone can feel free to ask their friends and coworkers for donations as well.
Ok I'll be keeping an eye out for potential props and ask around.  Are there any colors you would particularly like to use (or not like to use) as in if you are using white backdrops you would most likely not want white chairs etc.
I'm thinking that neutral colors would be ok.  White, wood,......

Hello!  My husband Josh and I would like to offer our services.  We are both photographers who make up Joshua Aaron Photography willing to shoot at this event.  We can also offer enough seamless backdrop and lighting equipment to run two stations (one for each of us).

Let us know if we can help.

Aaron that would be wonderful.  Thank you for joining us.
Great!  Is there any other information available as to where, when, and if any others have volunteered to help?

I will be putting the information here and I get things worked out.  I have 12 other photogs from the Portrait Photography Group that will be volunteering as well.  Here is the link to that site.  http://www.meetup.com/PPGColumbia/events/28374721/

I am trying to work things out with Kenneth Shuller School of Cosmetology to see if we can get volunteers to do hair and m/u if anyone would like it.  I meet with them Thursday.  Sister care is checking to see if we can use there conference hall as the location.  If not I have another place down town that might work.  Over this next week I will be compiling a list of the things that people have told me that they can bring and I'll post on here what else is needed.

Feel free to call me if you want.  My cell is 803-360-0499.  I'm available for calls after 5:30 M-F.

I would like to have a get together of all the people that are helping with this sometime in the next couple of weeks so that we can go over what is planned and what is still needed.  I know that Thanksgiving is coming up quick, but I would like to know if everyone can meet me at Carolina Wings down town one evening.  I have arranged for us to meet on Nov 14th at the Carolina Wing and Rib House 600 Gervais Street, Columbia SC @ 6:00pm.  I do hope that everyone can make it to the meeting so that we can

discuss this exciting event that we are planning.  Call me if you have any questions 803-360-0499

Tina - I would like to participate, but cannot make it from the fort to Columbia by 6. If this precludes me from shooting, then I understand... if not, then just keep me informed as to when, where, etc. I have studio lights - both continuous and strobe - various backgrounds, light stands, etc...
Oh no, this will not keep you from participating.  I will keep you informed of what we talk about.  And if you still want to come but will arrive late that is ok too.  This will be an informal meeting and it won't disrupt anything if you come late.

Hi Tina,

Josh and I can't make it tonight. Let us know if after the meeting you are still in need of photographers.
