Volunteers & equipment (laptops preferable, desktops always appreciated) needed [Post Process]

Hello everyone,

My name's Nick and am in charge of the post-process aspect of the upcoming Help-Portrait event on Dec. 4th.  Some of my duties entail recruiting two to three volunteers as well as two or three additional computer stations and hopefully an additional photo printer to use as a back-up in the event something should go wrong with our main work horse.

Volunteers:
  • Individuals in charge of their respective sections and those putting on the event itself are expected to serve throughout the entirety of the day's activities.  The time frame set is 9 a.m. through 9 p.m.  As a volunteer, I don't expect you to adhere to a similar schedule, but of course would be more than delighted should you decide to do so.
  • Duties during the event will include:
    • Being a runner/bridge between the shooters and the post-processing station(s)
    • Formatting, organizing and keeping track of all media cards
    • Minor software post-processing, if necessary - decided upon on the fly
    • Monitoring all running electronics within our section to ensure 100% uptime
    • Being able to communicate quickly should any adverse situation arise, such as a machine or printer becoming inoperable for any reason
  • Keep in mind, the aforementioned list are duties that will be shared between myself and anyone else who decides to join in that day - no one will ever be left in the dark or expected to take on any one task without understanding exactly what needs to be done; moreover all should rest assured knowing someone will always have their back for support if needed
Computer/Equipment:

  • I am currently providing my personal desktop to use as the main machine in charge of loading images from the media cards and any necessary post processing.  I will also be providing a laptop for use as a backup to my desktop as well as the machine to which I expect to use to format any media cards necessary.  What I would like in addition:
    • 2 or 3 additional laptops to be used as backups as well as minor work benches to be used for activities such as card formatting and image/data backup in real time (via wireless/wired network infrastructure I'll be setting up)
    • If you don't have a laptop, but instead a desktop machine you'd be willing to provide for the day, then that is just as well.  My preference towards laptops stems only from the fact of their compact size.
    • If you cannot volunteer for the event on Saturday, the 4th of Dec., but would still like to contribute your machine for that day's event, then I would be just as appreciative.  I will arrange a date and time, that is best for you, to pick up the equipment.
  • PRINTERS. Our main photo printer has been provided by Aaron (thank you!) for us to use for this event.  What I'm asking for are any additional photo printers out there that will be used as backups in the event something adverse occurs with the work horse.  If you have such a printer you'd be willing to part with just for this day, and knowing it will be in very capable hands, please let me know so we may talk about this further.

If you're interested in volunteering for the post-process section on the 4th of Dec., please contact me (nicksil@gmail.com) Nick Strocchia whose contact information can be found in the members section this group's site.

Looking forward to hearing from you.

Thank you,
Nick Silvester

Hi Nick!

I'm Katie, I'm a Senior photography student at Charlottesville High School. I volunteered at the event last year and I plan on volunteering again this year! I hope to attend from at least 10 to 5 or something around that, so I can do whatever's needed! Last year I printed & sleeved photos (if that's the right term...) so I can do anything to help make the process easier.

Thanks,
Katie
Hey Katie!

Thanks for stepping up! I appreciate you volunteering. Seeing as you have the experience of last year's event and the general workflow of the post-process section, I could definitely use your assistance. I'll be contacting everyone on an individual basis when I have a more organized plan for setup and overall procedure. I'll be giving you all a heads up very soon so as to leave as much time in the interim as possible.

Thanks again, Katie!

Hi again, Katie!

Checking in to see if you're still willing and able to help us out this coming Saturday. If so, do the hours you've previously outlined still hold up? If you'd prefer, please let me know of a more concise window of time you'd be willing to help us out with this event in the post-processing section. Once I have all my hours and people set up, I'll shoot you a schedule right back.

Please give me a heads up via e-mail: nicksil@gmail.com

Thanks a lot!!
Hi Nick!

My name is Jenna, I am a photography student at Charlottesville High School. I would love to help volunteer on December 4th! I will be available from 10-6...I have no preferences in terms of what I would like to do, so whatever you need help with I am up for it! I could also bring my laptop in if needed! Let me know!

Thanks,

Jenna Zschaebitz
Hi Jenna!

Thanks for offering your assistance for this event! I just wanted to touch base with everyone so far to give a heads up that I am receiving your offers to volunteer and that I (we) really appreciate it! I'll be in contact with everyone on an individual basis in the very near future as all the planning comes together and we produce a more concise idea of setup and implementation.

Thanks again, Jenna!
Hello Jenna!

I'm curious to hear if you're still interested in coming out to give us a hand on Saturday. If so, please e-mail me: nicksil@gmail.com and let me know a relatively precise window of hours you'd prefer to volunteer so that I may get my scheduling together and subsequently get a copy back out to you.

Thanks again for your offer to volunteer and make sure to e-mail if you're still interested.

Thanks so much!
Nick, this is Chris Scott.
When planning started, I decided I was going to offer my 21" iMac for use on that day. Glad you got this request posted. Go ahead and mark that machine down as an asset you can use for the day. It's got Lightroom and PS CS4 already loaded, so there should be no problems processing pics on that machine.
Cool, sounds good, Scott.

I'll still have my machine in tow with all the Adobe goodness as well as at one additional laptop to use as a backup workhorse. I think we're looking great as far as PP rigs are concerned.

Thanks again!
Hi Nick,

My name is Cierra, I am a photography student at Charlottesville High School. I would like to volunteer for this event, I am available from about 10am-5pm. I have no preference for a specific job, so I can help wherever it's needed. I look forward to volunteering.

Thank you,
Cierra
Hi Cierra!

Still interested in possibly giving us a hand? Shoot me an e-mail: nicksil@gmail.com with a relatively concise window of time you feel up to giving us a hand and we'll see where we could use you the most!

Thanks for volunteering!!
I have a MacBook Pro and 23" monitor I can bring. I have full Adobe CS5 suite on the MacBook, and an external HDD I can bring as well. Also I have a small 1000W lighting kit (2x 500W lamps with umbrellas,) if needed, as well as a Canon 20D DSLR (only 2 mediocre lenses.) If you have enough computers and such, just let me know if there is something else you would like me to do. Thanks.

Edit: I'm having 8 teeth removed on the 2nd, so depending on how I'm feeling, I probably won't be able to stay for more than a couple of hours. I still want to come and help out, just can't stay for too long, and I can't leave my macbook as it is my school laptop.
