Really excited about the event this year! Wanted to provide some details of the event and also layout some of the needs that you all can hopefully help with! If you have any questions or if you would like to be involved in a greater capacity, please comment on the thread or shoot me an e-mail directly at howardmkang(at)gmail. For those that have already signed up to volunteer...you're awesome! You'll be getting an e-mail shortly from Jessica or me.

Hyde Square Task Force

Jamaica Plain, Boston, MA (Google Map)

Saturday, Dec. 10, 2011

Time TBD (looking like 10:00 AM - 4:00 PMish)

Details

We're expecting 250 subjects - a mixture of youth + families that Hyde Square Task Force serves. There is a general common area in the building which will house the food, great conversation, and prep. for photos. The photos will be taken in 4 separate rooms with 2 studio setups (8 total) and then photos will be printed on site.

Volunteer Need

- 8 photographers comfortable w/ studio lighting/gear (those who can provide their own are preferred. Base setup will be seamless white, 1-2 strobes, light modifier)

- 8 assistants (anyone photographer is eligible! assistants + photographers will be switching off throughout the day)

*As a reminder to photographers: "This is about GIVING the pictures, not taking them. These portraits are not for your portfolio, website, or for sale. Money isn’t involved here. This holiday season, you have the chance to give a family something they may have never had before—a portrait together."

- Hosts/Hostesses (Will stick with the subjects through the time they are in the building. Hyde Square will be providing a few as some families will require Spanish proficiency.)

- Make-up Artists / Hair Stylists

- Welcome Table Greeters (To set people off on a great start to their day!)

- Runners (Misc. items)

- General Volunteers

If you have any friends/family who could help out, please reach out to them and tell them how amazing Help-Portrait is!

The tentative plan is for the event to go from 10:00 AM - 4:00 PM. It's preferred that volunteers are available for the full day, but if that does not work - volunteers can sign up for shifts. We will be doing setup and touching base at 9:00 AM so volunteers should plan to arrive at 9:00 AM.

Please sign-up at: http://www.help-portrait-boston.com/volunteer - it really helps us keep everything in one place and see our needs!

Donation Need

We're hoping to provide 8x10 prints + frames to families and 5x7 + frames to individuals. We'd like to offer multiple prints if we can afford it. We also have to consider potential purchases/rentals like seamless white paper, food, markers, gaff tape, extension cords, etc. The organizing team set a goal of $1500 to be safe. Really when you think about it, if 20 of us got 5 of our friends to donate $15, we'd be set! All donations are tax deductible and any extra donations will go to Hyde Square Task Force. You can send people to donate directly online here:

https://help-portrait.donortools.com/my/funds/44268-Help-Portrait-B.... If your donors would prefer paper, they can donate to Hyde Square Task Force directly (make sure they put Help-Portrait in the memo). If anyone has any suggestions/connections to small businesses in the area that may want to sponsor the Boston event that would be great! So far we're planning on contacting Calumet, Ritz, and Wolf.
If there's enough interest we can also print shirts that would go towards Help-Portrait 2011.

Thanks, everyone!

Howard
