Our event at Cortana Mall with 24 families of senior citizens went really great. About half of the senior citizens intending to go showed up due to the rain but it was a success. Let's not wait until next year as people are saying, but let's make this a seasonal thing, like every couple months. We can help a different group each season. Habitat for humanity home recipients, senior citizens, people living with terminal illness or cancer (breast cancer for example), abused women, etc. Let's not stop with the official annual "help-portrait" but make it a thing we do out of our hearts because we love people and love what gift we have to offer the hurting world. Merry Christmas. I'm so happy it was a success for everyone.

Santa photos went great at Fellowship Church. I took photos of about 40-50 children and familes. People from all over the community showed up and were very grateful to receive a free photo. Some people commented that they had never had their picture taken with Santa before. Looking forward to helping out next year!

I have finally decided to serve at the Cortana Mall senior activity center giving a session away to 40 randomly selected winners of a free portrait session. Volunteers needed for editing and I need a makeup/hair artist to confirm please. Who is my 2nd photographer? I honestly forgot. See my link here for the flyer that is being passed out at every activity center in the city. Maybe you could make a similar flyer to put at some place in which you want to serve. We had to resort to doing a register to win type of thing because we'll receive an overwhelming response. I could even use a 3rd photogarpher. I will be working Celebrate Christmas in Prairieville LA on Dec 12th. It will be held at Fellowship Church from 2-4pm. Basically its a local outreach for the community and we will be giving away Christmas trees, food, etc. to those in need and I will be taking photos of children with Santa. If anyone would like to join me, help out, or assist in any way, just let me know!

Ok, I guess the excitement has died down. I just learned about Maison Des Ami of Louisiana http://brgov.com/dept/ocd/shelters/shelter10.htm.
It's a shelter for men and women who have mental illnesses and would be a great place for some photographers to get involved in. That is if you're still looking for a place to serve. Is anyone NOT sure where they're serving? Is anybody out there?

Are you guys getting pumped about the event? There hasn't been much activity or new members in the past week so I don't know if everyone is ready or if the excitement has just died down. Let us know if you are not yet sure where you'll be serving and if you still need to be part of a group! Thanks.

Erik, shirts would be cool, but not totally necessary since we're opting to break up into small teams throughout the city and won't have a bunch of people at any one site. But it's whatever you want to do. :)

Hey everyone! Let me explain how this works. There seems to be some confusion. If you want to get involved, read this. There is no one person in charge of this city-wide event. There will be small groups that YOU create and get people to join. For each group, you'll need a makeup artist/hair stylist (preferably 2), 2 photographers or more, a videographer if you want to document the event, a person answering questions, a person doing post-production on location and showing people the photos on a laptop, and maybe someone handling food distribution. So make it YOUR own...whatever area you want to serve. Don't have too many people at one event because it'll become more complicated than it needs to be and I feel it's better to serve as many people as you want to but not have volunteers just sitting around. They could be useful at another site that is understaffed with volunteers. If you have any questions, ask them here. I'll be serving in one of the senior activity centers. Decide your area and get your team. Use Chase's post here: http://community.help-portrait.com/group/batonrougela/forum/topics/if-you-want-to-help-look-here if you have an area in which you want to help and then that way, people can choose you on their "team" if they're needing someone with your experience. Hope that helps.

I was looking at the home page and noticed that they will have Help portrait t-shirts for sale. Wouldn't this be a great idea if we all bought one and used them to identify ourselves at the events to make it easier?
