I think this site, this event this movement is incredible. I stumbled across it from another site, based on taking a photo everyday for a year. Since I found the site I haven't stopped thinking about it and I really wanted to get involved. So I had a look at the locations, and found that there wasn't any near me.
But I decided, I still really wanted to do something. My 6th form & old secondary school have ties with a soup kitchen and they donate every christmas & throw a party for them. I thought that they might quite like the idea of Help-portrait too.
So I signed up, but noticed that my birthday was invalid. I had no idea that you Had to be 18. I am 17, I will turn 18 next December. But I still Really want to get involved, and I was confused when I made my account. I didn't realize you had to be over 18. I'm sorry, I really am. I understand that I might be too young, and you might have to remove my account or something.
I just wanted to say either way, Help-portrait is a brilliant idea.
Bottom-line, would I still be able to get involved? I really want to run an event in my area.
& Thank you for inspiring me to use my camera in a better way.

Permalink Reply by BSC_Photo on January 15, 2012 at 5:54pm Being that you are 17, and you don't have any local events planned, I would suggest you find an established photographer or photo studio to partner with to see if they will help you bring it to you area.
I hate to say that being a 17 year old instantly makes it impossible for you to do it on your own, because it doesnt, but I can tell you that it is a VERY extensive project that requires knowledge of the laws (who you can take photos of, who you cant, what you can do with those photos, etc) as well as donations and money management.
You never actually mentioned where specifically you were. There might be one near you that you just couldnt find. I see in the tags that you are in England.. I know there was at least a few in England, but not sure exactly where.

Here is a list of UK groups. Perhaps one is in your area or close to it.
Alternatively, get in touch with these members who are in your area.
In both instances, I'd expect they would be happy to share information and welcome you into their group!
Blessings
