Update Nov 29: We have a team and a plan to serve the 120 families at DLEC! However, we are still looking for one additional assistant photographer (see below).
What's more, we are still looking for financial support to cover the cost of the prints. Chip in here if you can.

I am coordinating an event on Dec 4 for Denise Louie Education Center, which provides pre-school and other education programs to kids from low-income, culturally diverse, families.

Feel free to reply to this thread if you are interested in helping out, or have any questions.

Dec 4, 2010  , 9am - 4:30pm
(if you can only help out for half a day, that is okay too!)

Location: Denise Louie Education Center  Beacon Hill site

Volunteers needed.
1 - Assistant Photographer, who helps to pose the families, take over when the portrait photographer needs a break, etc.

Positions filled
2 - Portrait Photographer[*] (Marisa, Rakesh)
1 - Assistant Photographer (Stefanie 9am-1pm, Tos 1pm - 4:30pm)
4 - Processor / Photo Editor ( Laurie + Wenona: 9am-1pm; Katie, Jared, Easton, Marisa's friend 1/4 )
1 – Documentation Photographer (Yee: 9am - 1pm; Stefanie: 1 - 4:30pm)
2 - All-purpose volunteer (Backup to other roles, gopher, etc). (Marisa's friend 2/4, 3/4)
1 - Site Leader / Project Manager (Sam)
1 - Greeter (Marisa's friend 4/4)
1 - Prop preparation (Lydia)

Maybe:
Michele (greeter, makeup)
Eratosthenes (photography related area)

[*] Portrait Photographer: responsible for taking the studio style portrait photos. Please also indicate if you have the lighting equipment (light, flash, light stand, backdrop / stands, etc.).

[**] Processor / Photo Editors will download the photos from the memory cards to their laptops, let the families pick the one they like the best, and crop the photo in appropriate sizes (4x6 , 8x10, and possibly 5x7). Of course, you're free to do additional editing should you  feel inspired!

DLEC, founded in 1978, has been serving low-income children (0-5 years old) and their families to ensure the children's success in kindergarten, through pre-schools and a variety of other programs, addressing their needs in their cognitive, emotional, and social skills development, as well as physical health.

Sam - this rocks! So glad it came together. Can't wait to see the fruits of your hard work and of everyone involved.
Sam - I'd be interested in learning more about this opportunity, either as a photographer or documentation photographer. I live very close to the Denise Louie Education Center and love what it does for the Beacon Hill Community!
Hi Yee,

Good to hear from you!

For the lead photographer, it'd be ideal if the lead photographer is comfortable with studio portrait photography. The bonus would be that the lead photographer has the relevant equipment (light/flash, light stand, backdrop / stands, etc.).

On the other hand, documentation photographer tends to enjoy documentary style, candid photography to record the event.

Let me know what you think!
Hey Sam!

I think my style would be better suited for the documentary photographer role. Let me know what you'd like to see to see if my style is what you would like for this position. I'm working on building a website, but right now most of my work is either on Facebook or flickr (http://www.flickr.com/photos/yftoad).

Thanks,
Yee
Thanks Yee for being the documentary photographer! Depending on the final makeup of the team, I might ask you to serve as the backup for Marisa (say, when she needs a break).
Sam,

I apologize for this, but my wife just told me that we committed to attending a wedding down in Fife at 2pm on 12/4. Would it be all right for me to shoot between 9am and 1pm? Sorry for the inconvenience...I'm looking forward to working with you and Marisa!
No worry and thanks for the heads-up. So I suppose we will see you dress smart! :)
Hi Sam, I would love to help with this event. I have experience as a portrait photographer. I also have my own equipment including editing equip.
Thanks - so you are in!

From equipment (lighting or otherwise) perspective, is there anything additional you need?
Thanks Sam, I am happy to help. There is no additional equipment needed. I have everything needed plus redundancy. Just let me know when you are plan to meet to talk about logistics and set up. I look forward to working with you.
Hi Marisa,

Could you let me know your email address (just send me a private message)? We're close to be ready to meet as a team to discuss the details.

Thanks!
Hi Sam,
I'm available to work at Denise Louie Education Center on Dec. 4. I'm a freelance documentary photographer.

Let me know if you need me for this.
Thanks,
Stefanie
