Event Description

Ubuntu Help-Portrait shoot for children and adults at New Beginnings Care Centre in Boksburg.

New Beginnings Care Centre is a shelter that provides housing and feeding for the destitute, homeless, abused woman and children, recovering substance abusers, street children, prostitutes, parolees and others in recovery from various addictions.

The centre is a sanctuary for the destitute that aims to keep the moral of these people in high spirits through Bible study, prayer groups, youth activities, various outings and excursions. It is a registered public benefit organisation and non profit organisation.

Special Notes for Volunteers:

The centre is based in an old prison with other buildings added to it. It is very crowded and so it is likely that some of the volunteers will have to shoot outdoor. A reflector may be very useful for that so please bring yours if you have one.
As many of the people there are in recovery from various addictions, we need to be especially sensitive to and expect that some may not wish to have their photo taken.
Volunteers meet at the McDonald's which is just around the corner at 08h00 for a quick breakfast together [optional] and a briefing at 08h15 before the shoot. Click here for the directions to McDonald's.

Comment by Hannes Bronkhorst on October 5, 2012 at 8:28am: Note. McDonalds is not just around the corner. Just walking distance close :) From eithr north or south you will most probably be coming down Rondebult road. McDonalds is on the corner of Rondebult road and Leeuwpoort street.
